Assignment 1 : The Blister

Process / 

The process of creating the blister started out with cutting out MDF patterns with the use of a CNC machine. Two identical patterns were chosen which would sandwich a sheet of aluminium in between, allowing the sheet to extrude through the pattern opening. The shaping of the blister utilized a mix of hammers and mallets to create the initial form, this then led to pushing the form further through use of timber pieces shaped to fit the smaller area of the template. The first attempt was unsuccessful, as there was too much depth which led to the aluminium being pierced. As a result, through realizing the breaking point the second iteration was approached with a more shallow and subtle indentation.

Assignment 2 : The Ferrari 250 gto

Process / The second assignment involved forming teams of 6 to work on creating a scale template for a Ferrari 250 Gto model. The model would be divided into equal portions and each team member would work towards creating their piece of the overall car shell. The initial process involved creating the 'waffle' slices from fusion 360. In hindsight, we should have experimented more with possible slice variations and materials thicknesses as we were left with some strange slices and because we had several sections the pieces proved difficult to fit as the slices became wedged together and prevented other slices from taking its position smoothly.   The car shell was taking shape, though as a result of the large number of slices we were beginning to experience fitment issues. We decided to cut some of the slices using the bandsaw to widen the slots for easier assembly. Fitment was also made easier by reducing a few slices to only incorporate the crucial piece

Assignment 1 : The Tray

Process /  The process of creating the tray started out with cutting out a pre-drawn template from a sheet of aluminium, working in pairs the tray was specified as 150mm x 200mm within this was a 10mm border frame for the edges of the tray which would be folded up creating the perimeter wall. Initially, clamping the sheet and hammering the edges proved to be inefficient, as a result templates were made to act as a pattern for the whole tray. The patterns were an improvement in the process of making the tray where the tray could essentially act as a skin adhering to the pattern surface.
